Electric Motors

Electric motors were one of the earliest means of propelling autocars. In fact, Ferdinand Porsche, designer of the Volkswagen, spent many of his formative years working on electric technology for vehicles. The internal combustion engine took over from electric as the dominant technology at quite an early stage, meaning that development in electric systems and energy storage was stifled for decades. Only relatively recently has development in this area returned to full stride.
