Using Adobe Photoshop with Sketches
To give an example of how you might use Photoshop to create a rendering from a rough thumbnail, we have quickly put together a couple of stepped images.
Here, a thumbnail sketch has been scanned and minor adjustments have been made to brightness and contrast for working clarity.
A path has been drawn to mark out the side of the vehicle between front and rear wheels.
The path has then been used to create a selection marquee and the dashed line seen here shows the active selection marquee.
Using the selected area, the airbrush tool was used to first add a covering of white before applying shade with dark grey.
The path > selection marquee > airbrush process was repeated on the front wing.
Line definition has been increased in places by creating a path, selecting an appropriate brush tool and using the stroke path function.
More path creation, marquee selection and then either block colour fill or airbrush.
Whilst this is only a very rough example, it should give some insight into how designers can quickly and effectively take a simple sketch to a rendered state in a a few hours.
